Electric Mouse Dreams Day 6: Cristin Pescosolido

Was there ever a dream you had of people riding through mountain terrain on gravity-defying electric mouse vehicles? I had such a dream, sometime in the 90s. I told my college chum, Cristin Pescosolido, all about it! Our High Priestess of Gothtober, Cristin, has used special effects magic to give us a glimpse of just how REAL this dream could look.

Sketch of mouse dream by JP, and the inner workings of Cristin’s application of Unreal Engine below! 3-D wow!

Here is Cristin’s account of creating this lively futuristic scenario:

“This was made entirely in blender and unreal engine 4 over the last three weeks.
I had never used either package before, so the learning curve was steep.

The modeling, texturing, and animation was done in blender. The shading, particles, lighting, and landscape was done using UE4.
There is still a bunch of stuff I need to figure out, like reflection maps, audio (the mix output from UE4 is still experimental in the version I was using) and why my particles didn’t render in every shot.
But hey, it was a huge amount of fun, and I did a lot of writing of my own materials, something I’ve never done before. Blueprint is fun, and I can’t wait to learn more (and maybe dig into c++ instead of blueprint inside UE4).

HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!!!

Our final treat in the Gothtober Line-Up this year is from the Family Waller in Los Angeles, California. There are three Waller kids, and each one in this film has a dream after having too much candy. Footage from these miraculous dreams involves sweets, dolls, space travel, dirt, and a white pumpkin. The Waller family came together to make this film to let you know that if YOU eat too much candy, you might also experience vivid, sugar-laden visions, so be careful how many Junior Mints you eat before going to sleep! It’s kind of a cosmic cowboy PSA for the times we live in, feel free to sing along at the end!

We’d like to thank all of you out there who followed us until the very last day of October, and we’d like to pat on the back every skeleton, ghost, monster, and all of the other crawly screamy freaky things who made this year a great success. Thank you for being part of our 13th endeavor, dirt and worms for you all!

Head Candy Corn, JP

The Anaheim Halloween Parade visits Gothtober DAY 27

Kevin Kidney flying the Sasser to Ruby’s for a Pumpkin Shake

Hip Hip Hooray, it’s the Anaheim Halloween Parade TODAY! Click on Gothtober Pumpkin #27 and enjoy Kevin Kidney’s tell-all tale of a city that knows how to dress up for All Hallow’s Eve! The very first Anaheim Halloween Parade was in 1924, with home run baseball superstar, Babe Ruth, served as grand marshal! Kevin Kidney drove the “Flying Sasser” down the street today, the Sasser has a lot of wonderful facts and history, it’s original debut was in 1953 when the parade’s theme was “Out of this World.” The Anaheim Historical Society went to work re-creating the Sasser in all of its glory, you can read all about Anaheim’s history and see a step-by-step photo essay showing how to build a Sasser, in case you need to escape from any body snatchers or little green men!

Kevin is part of the fabulous duo Kevin & Jody, they are Anaheim and Tiki enthusiasts, and you can find them doing crazy awesome things like painting the interior of Trader Sam’s at Downtown Disney, sporting lederhosen at Oktoberfest, or making incredible paper art and paintings.
