Press Release

Count down to Halloween with Gothtober’s Haunted Boombox!

It celebrates the fantastic, the exuberant, the macabre and the debaucherous; it’s about crazy costumes, houses of gore, and candy from strangers. It’s Halloween, and it’s fast approaching.

Each year, the Gothtober Calendar counts down to this wondrous holiday with 31 days of music, video, animation, recipes, crafts and other assorted art goodies. It’s like an advent calendar for Halloween! Starting at midnight on October 1, a new piece by a different artist will be revealed each day.

Gothtober’s theme for 2010 is the HAUNTED BOOMBOX. According to the site’s Head Candycorn, Julianna Parr, it’s “an ode to ghosts of music past, sounds from beyond the grave, audible nightmares and melted mix tapes.” While she isn’t about to give away all of the spooky surprises that await, viewers can savor gems from years gone by, including:

2007, Day 15: Lori Meeker’s “The Mummy!”—the crustiest Casanova this side of the River Nile

2005, Day 28: Furry friends star in  “Hello Frankenstein” by D.R. Greenlaw and Alisa Loren Klein

2003, Day 8: Ed Lee’s weird and seasonally-challenged cartoon, “Ghost Dog Serenade”

In its 9th year, Gothtober has amassed a loyal following and a cast of veteran artists, such as Billy Kheel, Jenny Walsh, Christine Panushka and Barry Morse. Some exciting newcomers include tiny-food artist Jessica Hlavac, restaurateur Ben Ling and urban planner Alex Kenefick. Complete bios of all artists will be available when the calendar launches.

Visit  Gothtober.com on October 1, and make the HAUNTED BOOMBOX the soundtrack to your holiday exorcism or fiendish fondue party!
